I’m with Todd on personal genre dislike due to not like being scared (and scarred). As a father, I’ve had a dream somewhat similar to the car scene and it was so eerily familiar… thanks ;-)!
My take cones from something Inkearned from listening to you two. The beginning and end tell you what you need to know and we start off going through a dream in shot through the models that ends on the Tree house and that is what’s real!!! And you were spot on the shot cycle (Heredetary repeats it self through generations so voila,Holy Crap!!!! We create our own framework of our physical and mental beings…. and we are fixated on those boundaries and what’s within those “walls”… and then the Mother recreates the room with the child’s remains and even recreates the scene on the road…. this is Heredity and what gets passed along. The family element was so close to real terror that everyone can take in a worthy introspective session.
The satanic stuff has me baffled at this time and Wes’ Antichrist analogy works but doesn’t feel right… the director was about a few things as as a first timer he may have gone too far. I bought the DVD and will watch it again but not for a while….
How about not a horror film for a while? I can’t take it!
haha, yikes! I definitely would not cherish any dreams like that, watching it was definitely enough for me.
Love your addendum that it repeats itself through generations, connecting the end and the beginning. And yeah, I couldn’t find a more fitting analogy than the Antichrist nativity story, though I certainly believe one exists. Perhaps it’ll start screaming at me the next time I watch it, which, like you, won’t be for quite some time.
And I agree, we’ll take a break on horror films for a while! haha
